By the grace of Almighty God, a master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tikrit, for the thesis titled:
“A Comparative Morphological, Histological, and Histochemical Study of the Abomasum in Suckling Lambs and Local Goat Kids”
by Mohammed Abdul Sattar Rasheed Mohammed, specializing in Veterinary Histology. The session was attended by Prof. Dr. Bashar Sadiq Noami, Dean of the College, along with several faculty members and students.
The discussion committee consisted of:
Prof. Dr. Idris Khalaf Thamer / University of Tikrit – College of Medicine / Chairman
Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Khudair Abees / University of Kirkuk – College of Education / Member
Asst. Prof. Dr. Uday Alawi Jassim / University of Tikrit – College of Veterinary Medicine / Member
Prof. Dr. Iyad Hamid Ibrahim / University of Tikrit – College of Veterinary Medicine / Member and Supervisor
The study aimed to describe the anatomical features, histological structures, and histochemical composition of the abomasum during the first four months of life and to conduct a comparative analysis between local goat kids and lambs.
The research involved the examination of 24 samples (12 from kids and 12 from lambs), divided into four age groups ranging from one to four months. The study included a complete anatomical examination of the abomasum and a description of its internal surface, in addition to detailed histological analysis using fixation and staining techniques such as Hematoxylin and Eosin and Masson’s Trichrome stain, along with microscopic measurements of various tissue components such as gastric pits, lamina propria, and muscle layers.
The results revealed distinct anatomical and histological differences between the two species across different age stages, enhancing scientific understanding of the digestive system development in small ruminants and contributing to comparative veterinary anatomical studies.
The defense was held in Dr. Muhannad Maher Hall at the college, in the presence of many faculty members and students, who commended the importance of the research and its scientific precision, wishing the researcher continued success in his academic journey.
