Bologna Educational System

The Bologna Process
The Bologna Process is a multi-objective initiative aimed at creating a framework that harmonizes higher education qualifications, standardizing degrees and the information they provide. It facilitates the comparability of university degrees across European Union countries, supports the adoption of common quality standards, and enhances higher education’s role in student employability and global competitiveness.
The adoption of this process seeks to achieve the following goals:
  • Improve educational transparency.

  • Strengthen the international reputation of Iraqi universities and the national education system.

  • Enhance the overall quality of education.

  • Reduce the gap between the education sector and the labor market.

  • Utilize multidimensional tools to ensure transparency.

  • Design new curricula that address labor market needs and improve graduate employability.

  • Make learning enjoyable and practical, allowing students to benefit from teamwork and active learning.

  • Promote student-centered education, supported by international cooperation and student mobility.

  • Facilitate student transfer across universities and countries adopting the Bologna Process.

  • Establish a standardized system for evaluating, comparing, and aligning academic grades, making them more compatible with labor market requirements and global universities.

  • Develop a credit unit system similar to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to simplify student mobility between universities.

This framework represents a vital step toward aligning Iraqi higher education with international standards and enhancing the global competitiveness of its graduates.
