The External Veterinary Clinic at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tikrit, received a rare medical case of a cow suffering from Abomasal Displacement, a condition affecting one part of the digestive system that requires specialized surgical intervention.
A specialized medical team from the Department of Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics, with the participation of final-year students, conducted the necessary examinations and diagnosed the case. The results confirmed the displacement of the abomasum (the cow’s fourth stomach compartment), a complex digestive disorder that commonly occurs in cows, particularly after calving. Such displacement leads to severe digestive disturbances that negatively affect both productivity and overall health.
The medical team successfully performed the required surgical procedure to reposition the abomasum and secure it in its normal location. This case was highlighted as an important educational opportunity for advanced students to observe and participate in the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures applied in such conditions.
It is worth noting that the College of Veterinary Medicine’s teaching clinic continues to receive a wide range of animal cases, thereby contributing both to providing veterinary services to the community and to enriching the practical training of its students.
