Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tikrit, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Media in the College of Arts and the Center for Continuing Education, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Media and Confronting Intellectual Extremism.”
The seminar was presented by Prof. Dr. Youssef Hassan Mahmoud, Lecturer Yasmeen Khalid Khudair, and Lecturer Mona Sufyan Labeeb from the Department of Media, College of Arts.
The seminar covered several important intellectual and educational themes, focusing on defining the concept of intellectual extremism, its forms, and manifestations, as well as analyzing its risks to individuals and society. It also discussed the vital role of media in raising community awareness, promoting values of tolerance and moderation, and countering extremist discourse, while emphasizing the importance of media responsibility in supporting intellectual security and combating misinformation.
The event was held in Dr. Muhannad Maher Hall at the college, with the attendance of several faculty and staff members who actively participated through valuable discussions and contributions that enriched the seminar’s topics.
This activity comes as part of the college’s ongoing efforts to employ media as a tool for intellectual enlightenment and conscious education, fostering a university environment grounded in awareness, openness, and respect for intellectual and cultural diversity.
