As part of the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, and under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, President of Tikrit University, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with the College of Arts, organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Media in Countering Violent Extremism and Reducing Its Impact on Individuals and Society.”
The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Wasan Sarhan Ubaid, and delivered by Professor Dr. Yousif Hassan Mahmoud and Lecturer Yasmin Khalid Khudhair from the College of Arts. The seminar addressed several important themes, including the concept of violent extremism and its intellectual and social causes, the role of media discourse in shaping societal awareness, and mechanisms for employing responsible media to promote a culture of tolerance and moderation.
The seminar also discussed the impact of traditional and digital media in confronting extremist ideologies, the importance of verifying information and combating hate speech, as well as strengthening partnerships between academic and media institutions to build a more aware and stable society.
